Main Building Renovation: Preserving Our Past, Strengthening Our Future
The historic Waters Farmhouse, constructed in 1890, is the centerpiece of the Nepal Education and Cultural Center (NECC) property in Germantown, Maryland. As a cherished landmark, it symbolizes both the deep roots of the land and the evolving future of the Nepali-American community.
🛠️ Historic Roof Replacement Completed
With the generous support of a Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) grant, NECC recently completed a major milestone: the replacement of the building’s deteriorated roof. This critical renovation ensures the long-term structural integrity and preservation of the building, protecting it from weather damage and deterioration for years to come.
This project was made possible through the tireless dedication of NECC’s volunteer project managers and engineers, who contributed countless hours—from planning and permitting to final installation and inspection. Their expertise and commitment made this essential work a success.
🔧 Basement Renovation and Structural Reinforcement
In addition to the roof, NECC recently completed the renovation of the basement, which included:
Reinforcing deteriorating beams and columns to maintain safety and support
Installing proper drainage systems to manage moisture and prevent long-term damage
These improvements have significantly enhanced the structural health of the farmhouse, making it safer and more functional for future use.
